Project ExCel Exploring Careers Through Educational Labs Transition Program at D. W. Waters Career Center "It's not where you start, It's where you finish that counts!"          **This program is for middle school students who are currently 15 years old, and wish to       pursue a Career and Technical Training Track by seeking an alternative method to achieving a          standard high school diploma or wish to transition to a traditional high school. PURPOSE          Upon completion of this one year program, students may transition to a career center, an      adult school, or return to the traditional high school. This program will allow overage eighth       grade students to earn ninth grade credits and will give them the opportunity to participate in          Career and Technical education classes . This will assist students in identifying their desire to     graduate through the traditional high school program or through a Career Center or Adult       program. ELIGIBILTY REQUIRMENTS     15 YEARS OLD (MUST TURN 16 PRIOR TO THE BEGINNING OF THE 2009-2010 SCHOOL YEAR)                                          Must be two full years behind their kindergarten cohort                                                       Interested in available career training                                                       Currently enrolled in a middle school                                                         May/may not have met benchmarks         No current record of aggressive or severe discipline problems, within the last four months                                                  Must be willing to comply with career attire REGISTRATION         Students currently enrolled in middle school must see their guidance counselor for referral    For more information call (813) 233-2655 Ext.251 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 pm                                                                      Limited space available EXIT OPTIONS Career Center/Adult School Track                                      Earn three(3) academic credits with computer-generated exams                                                           Earn one (1) Career & Technical credit                                                                          Must have a 2.0 GPA                                                           Must be at least 16 years of age to exit                                                         Exit to the career center or adult program Traditional High School Track                                            Earn four(4) academic credits with district level exams                                                         Earn one (1) career & technical credit                                                              Must have a 2.5 GPA or higher                                                         Must be at least 16 years old to exit                                                              Exit to a traditional high school
