Easter Seals Child Development Center / Teen Parent West

  Child Development Center

The program is designed for teen parents to be able to continue their schooling while their infants and toddlers, two weeks to 36 months of age,  are cared for in a quality early care and educational setting operated by Easter Seals. The teen parents are able to visit with their infants during the school day while on approved breaks from the classroom. This provides the Easter Seals staff with opportunities for teaching appropriate parent/child interactions, proper feeding and developmentally appropriate practices to the teen moms and dads.

Infants of teen parents are considered to be at risk for developmental delays.  The quality care provided in this Easter Seals program reduces the risk of developmental delay, or if delay is present, provides the appropriate intervention to improve the child’s developmental outcomes.

Admission to this program is through the School District of Hillsborough County.  Funding for this program is provided by the School Readiness Program. For more information about the Teen Parent/Infant Centers Program operated by Easter Seals, please call (813) 233-2655 ext. 231 or Denise Horey, social worker, at 233-2655 extension 250 between 8-3 Tuesday-Friday

                  Goals

The Teen Parent West program serves to provide continuous educational and emotional support to teen parents / parents-to-be and their children. Students are educated in the program throughout the duration of their pregnancy and beyond in an environment where they can feel comfortable.

It is the goal of the Teen Parent West program to help teen parents establish safe, healthy and productive lives for themselves and their children.  In accomplishing this goal we can effect positive changes in the teens. Our mission is to reduce crime, violence, and homelessness through parenting education. Everybody wins —the children, the parents, their extended families, and the community at large.

Once students have delivered they return to school with their babies or the infants can be enrolled in daycare provided within the community.  Students will continue to receive their education while having the comfort of knowing that their babies are in a safe and nurturing environment.
